Acoustic guitar! I had two microphones and a stool set up, ready to record my acoustic guitar for about a week. The majority of the songs on this album had some basic material already created from the prior weeks, such as a melody or simple chord progression. When I sat in the chair and picked up my guitar, it would be about 15 minutes of messing with the idea before I went ahead and hit record. It is common for the original idea to be completely transformed by the time I felt the song was ready. All layers and harmonies were created directly after recording the initial track. Tracks 5 and 8 were made from scratch within those 15 minutes, inspired by interesting open tunings I came up with. As purposeful as all these notes are, the core of the creative process was speedy, welcoming improvisation. It was extra quick thanks to the simplicity of the acoustic guitar! Once you introduce electronics, there are more decisions to be made. Not today! Concise creation! Bing bong biddly diddly doodly doowop o deebop yeehaw giddy up cowbwahh!
